| Mustafa A. Hares, MD, FACS Dr. Hares is a member of the bariatric surgical team at St. John Weight Loss Center. He specializes in several types of bariatric surgery, including biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) duodenal switch, open Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and revisional bariatric surgery. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Hares earned his medical degree from Damascus (Syria) University Medical School, then completed residencies in general surgery at Christ Hospital, Oaklawn, Illinois (St. Luke’s Presbyterian University Program) and the North Oakland Medical Centers, Pontiac, Michigan (U-M Surgery Program). He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and International College of Surgeons, as well as a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity. |
| Abdelkader A. Hawasli, MD, FACS Dr. Hawasli is the director of Laparoscopic Surgery and the Minimally Invasive Surgery Center at St. John Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Hawasli pioneered laparoscopic removal of the gallbladder in 1989. Other minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures he has performed include laparoscopic band placement (LAP-BAND) for morbid obesity, sleeve gastrectomy, removal of the gallbladder, appendix, spleen, adrenal gland and colon; and repair of groin hernia and hiatal hernia. In addition, he has performed anti-reflux procedures for heartburn (GERD), kidney removal for transplant, and radio-frequency ablation of unresectable liver cancers. He has been board certified in general surgery since 1986, and was recognized in 2004 and 2005 as one of the region’s most respected general surgeons in Hour Detroit magazine’s annual “Top Docs” ranking. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). |

He is certified by the American Board of Osteopathic Surgeons. Additionally he is a member of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, the American Osteopathic Association, the Michigan State Medical Society, the Oakland County Medical Society and the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons. | Kerry L. Kole, DO Dr. Kole has a special interest in weight loss surgery, advanced laparoscopic surgery, general and emergency surgery and is fellowship-trained in trauma and critical care. He is board certified in general surgery. Among the types of bariatric surgery he performs are laparoscopic band placement (LAP-BAND), laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, Stomaphyx, revision and conversion. He has performed more than 700 bariatric procedures, both open and laparoscopic. He is a graduate of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and has been an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery at Michigan State University. He has authored more than 20 scientific articles and book chapters and is a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons (FACOS) and a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons. |

He completed medical school at Wayne State University and training at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan.
